Facing challenges and problems happen on a daily basis no matter which industry you are on. Entrepreneurs worry about growing their business and taking it to the next level, while lawyers are worrying about their next clients. In a recent Entrepreneur article, 7 obstacles are discussed that will help you grow as an entrepreneur to become successful.
1. Age ain't nothin but a number.
Growing up we were always told “oh you’re too young for this or that”. When we finally get to the the right age, we wonder why couldn’t get do this earlier? Well to become successful, don’t let age become a factor. The one who determines your success is you. As you gain experience through working new jobs and tackling new task, your time will come.
One of the most important things you can do is fail. Don’t be afraid to be wrong or make a mistake. I would say if you don’t fail, then you will never grow. Experiencing failures at a young age can help build and define your character.
2. Keep away from negativity.
Life simply is too short. We all go through ups and downs through life but sitting around in your own pity is something we must avoid. It’s okay to sit a dwell and reflect on what went wrong, but don’t let that dictate how you live your life. Be grateful for each opportunity you come across and think of how far you’ve come to put yourself in such a great position.
“Think of it this way: If the complainer were smoking, would you sit there all afternoon inhaling the secondhand smoke?”
3. Be aware of toxic people.
Growing up my parents were always concerned who I spent my time with after school and was adamant about meeting who my friends were. At the time, I thought they were simply being overprotective but in reality that were concerned with the people I was hanging out with as it reflects to my own personality as well. Surrounding yourself around positive people can help put you on the right track and achieve your goals.
“Successful people believe in a simple notion: you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
4. Who cares what other people think.
We are all guilty of this, it’s only human. As much as we say, who cares about what other people think or ignore what that person said, it still has an affect on us. We often compare ourselves to others whether it comes to job accomplishments or the latest fashion trends. Focusing on what you can do for yourself and not waste your time carting what other people may think. True happiness and sense of success comes from within, not what you hear from the outside world. Do what makes you happy and strive to achieve goals for yourself.
5. Conquer your fears.
What are some of your biggest fears? Are you scared that your business is going to fail? Are you afraid you will not be able to support your family? These are all very common questions we think about and frankly can be categorized as “fear”. This emotion that we feel controls what we choose to do and how we act upon certain issues. It’s really amazing how it works as it can hold you back and potentially miss out on life changing opportunities. Don’t be the one who looks back 20 years from now and decided not to take the chance because you were “scared” or “feared failure”.
“The worst thing that can happen to you is allowing yourself to die inside while you’re still alive.”
6. Learn to move on.
Live life in the moment is what people say right? Well it’s true. We often get caught living in the past or think of what we could have done differently. Let’s face it, you can’t go back in time and change it. You made those decisions at the time and you must live with it. The decisions you have made helped put you in the shoes you are in you should embrace it. If you don’t like what the results have been, then simply change it. Do what you feel is necessary. To help get you to where that place is, here are two things you must first accept:
- Accept your past
- Accept the uncertainty of the future.
7. Keep up with current events.
With all the news coverage of Trump and violence erupting from protesters it’s tough to watch the news and get real news. While some news channels are more reputable than others, you must pick and choose. Having more than one go-to news source channel is great to take multiple views into consideration.
Staying up to date with what’s going on in the world. While you personally may not be able to change the outcome, it can have a larger affect on your life. If the stock market is crashing or banks are applying for bankruptcy, then it may change how you do your day-to-day business. Don’t get caught up in the other distractions of the news but control what you can only control- your attention and your effort.
Where can you put your efforts to make the world a better place? Or where should I shift my attention to? I am not saying you will be able to change the world all by yourself but being a contributor is better than being part of the problem.
